Andrine Belliveau DVM
Dr. Andrine Belliveau grew up in Bolton, Massachusetts. She fostered her interest for animals early on in life, raising goats and sheep through 4-H as a child. She attended Cornell University and received a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, and then went on to obtain a DVM degree from Tufts University in 2011. She has worked in both general practice and emergency medicine. She has special interests in internal medicine, emergency surgery, and dentistry. Dr Belliveau built a small home in Naples, Maine in 2012. She has worked at Lake Region Animal Hospital since 2012, mostly as a part-time veterinarian while working full-time in emergency care. In 2019 she purchased Lake Region Animal Hospital from Dr. Griffin and his wife Lisa, who have decided to retire, and she is now available for appointments full-time at Lake Region.
In her spare time, Dr. Belliveau enjoys hiking with her dog and sampling the local microbrews in Maine. If she can manage a full week off from work, you can usually find her on a plane as she loves to travel. One of her favorite places to visit is the Highlands of Scotland. She is happily owned by an English Shepherd named Bennett, and 2 cats – Bergie (go Bruins!) and Dalwhinnie.
Katherine Seavey DVM
Dr. Katherine Seavey received her veterinary degree from Colorado State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016, with additional certification in Canine Rehabilitation, Acupuncture, and Medical Massage. She is a native of Windham, Maine and a former employee of Lake Region Animal Hospital where she worked as a veterinary assistant for five years prior to vet school. Katherine is eager to return to her hometown to serve the community and is passionate about providing comprehensive and compassionate wellness care to companion canines and felines.
Katherine shares her home with her fiancé Christian, their dogs Zoey and Cruise, and their cat Murphy. They enjoy horseback riding, snowboarding, dirt biking, and spending time outdoors with their animals camping, hiking, and swimming at the lake.
Thomas G. Ahlers DVM
Dr. Tom Ahlers was born into a large family and raised in Dayton, OH. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in Biology from Wright State University and then received his veterinary degree from Ohio State University in 1984. He moved to Maine to raise his family and joined Dr. Jeff Smith at Forest Avenue Veterinary Hospital and had a successful partnership for 24 years until they sold the practice in 2008. Since then he has enjoyed doing relief shifts at several local hospitals. He is excited to be joining the excellent staff at Lake Region for a regular part time position. In addition to over 30 years of experience as a veterinarian and practice owner, Dr. Ahlers was a former President of the Downeast Veterinary Society and served as Treasurer of the Maine Veterinary Medical Association. He is also past president and long time board member of the Animal Emergency Clinic in Portland. Dr. Ahlers enjoys a variety of veterinary challenges including surgery, dental and complicated medical cases. He has also developed a true appreciation for what we call the human-animal bond and still gets a kick out of the stories that clients will share about their pets. Dr. Ahlers has three adult children who are all “launched” and doing well, so that leaves more time for his grandchildren, pets and hobbies, which include re-habbing houses, exercise, golf, boating, fishing and anything else that allows him to enjoy the Maine outdoors!
Our Veterinary Technicians
Leah Janus LVT
Head Veterinary Technician
Leah’s passion for animals began at a young age growing up on a small farm and also being involved in 4H. She was then accepted to a Vocational Agricultural High School in Massachusetts. From there, she obtained her Bachelors in Animal Science at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1999. After graduating from college, she moved to New Hampshire with her now husband Paul, in order for him to obtain his degree in Meteorology. Prior to joining us, she had worked with patients of all sizes at a small animal practice, a mixed animal practice, and an equine practice. In 2006, they moved to Maine and Leah began her employment here at LRAH, and she obtained her Maine veterinary technician license. In 2008, they purchased a home in Casco; a “fixer-upper” to consume their spare time. She enjoys exercising, running, hiking, and a variety of winter sports. Leah’s furry family consists of her three beloved cats Casco, Mojave, and Peaches.
Brooke Smothers LVT
Brooke Smothers joined LRAH April of 2009. She graduated from Holyoke Community College in Holyoke, MA. in 1992, and became a licensed veterinary technician in 1994. She enjoys being a dental technician and animal care giver. She lives in Windham with her husband, Rick and their daughter, Isabella. They share their home with their exuberant golden retriever Hudson and cat Lilly. Brooke and her family enjoy hiking, camping, watching hockey (Go Bruins!), snowshoeing, gardening, and attending car shows.
Growing up I was so blessed to have a mom who nurtured my love of animals by allowing me to have many different pets. I graduated from University of Maine Augusta with a degree in Animal Medical Technology in 2000. I love my job as a veterinary technician and I can’t imagine doing anything else. Currently, my household consists of my son and 4 cats. My motto is that there is always room for one more! Jennifer has been a veterinary technician with Lake Region Animal Hospital since 2010.
